Character Creation / House Rules
« on: January 22, 2012, 11:53:51 PM »
Character Creation:
1) Ability scores: "purchase - Epic Fantasy" (see p15 Core Rules)
2) All races available - however, if you choose half-elf or elf, there will be special repercussions (see setting post)
3) Core Rules classes only, may not start with monk levels (you must find a trainer... good luck)
4) Advanced Player Guide archetypes available
5) Feats from Core Rules or Advanced Player Guide
6) Hit points are not rolled (1/2 die type for each level)
7) Start at 2nd level
8] No evil alignments - furthermore, this is a heroic campaign - villainous behavior will produce dire consequences
9) No prestige classes without approval
10) You begin play poor.  Starting money:
    Barbarian 40 gp
    Bard 40 gp
    Cleric 55 gp
    Druid 25 gp
    Fighter 70 gp
    Paladin 70 gp
    Ranger 70 gp
    Rogue 55 gp
    Sorcerer 25 gp
    Wizard 25 gp
11)  You will start with no cash.  Spend it or lose it.
12)  You will start only with equipment appropriate for a trip across town.  No food, no mounts, etc...

House Rules:
1) Wizards' spellbooks may be treated as a collection of scrolls.  In other words, arcane casters may cast spells directly from a wizard's spellbook - thus erasing the spell.  Conversely, a wizard can memorize a spell from a scroll (and retain the scroll).  This is intended to increase the utility of wizards - at a cost.

2) New Feat:
Divine Concealment - Your divine patron knows that you need your alliance to remain hidden.
Prerequisites - Divine spells / powers (Cleric, Druid, Paladin, Ranger?)
Benefit - You are protected from detection based on your divine connection.  This serves as a permanent non-detection spell as cast (on one's self) by a 20th level caster - but only when the screening conditions regard your current status or prior use of divine powers.  For example, a spell that locates the nearest spellcaster would find you.  However, a spell that locates the nearest divine caster would not.  Likewise, a spell to locate you as the person who cast a specific (divine) spell would also fail.  Furthermore, when subject to a "detect alignment" spell, you will be treated as an aligned creature according to your alignment (not a divine caster).  If desired, you may disable / enable this effect by concentrating as a standard action.

3) Experience will not be given as standard.  Instead, there are four methods to gain experience:
a) Successful completion of missions / goals / plot points  (group experience)
b) Creative additions to the game: draw pictures, write songs, logs, etc... (group experience, limit per player per session)
c) Expenditure of your character's funds (spent training, drinking, collecting worthless trinkets, etc...): this is individual experience, exchange rate to be determined, with a limit per session
d) DM discretion or time advancement

4) Other rules added as necessary... questions and suggestions welcome

Decided to put it here after all:

If you decide to play a half-elf or elf, then you may choose to play a half-drow OR a half-elf/half-drow (name to be decided).

Advantage:
Generally accepted and respected member of non-drow society.  The drow themselves would still consider you little better than an animal.  Alternately, if forced to choose, they may actually prefer the company of animals.

Disadvantage:
There are many people who don't like the drow...  and you look an awful lot like one.

Otherwise:
Elves and half-elves are considered the lowest rung in the society of Erel-hei Cinlu.  When the priests of Lolth are choosing a sacrifice, you are first in the queue... unless they are concerned that you might get their altar dirty.   The rest of society takes their cues from the ruling class.  Spock headbands recommended.

The only person more prone to being hunted down and sacrificed would be a divine caster of any other religion (including druids, paladins, and rangers if they ever cast spells).

To encourage each person I've decided to up the rewards.

The first self-character portrait will be worth 150xp.  The first self-character background text will also be worth 150xp.

The limit is still one reward per week (per person).  But this way, I hope that we'll have a picture and explanation for each character when we are ready for session #3.  Plus, at that point, everyone will be 3rd level and maybe halfway to 4th.
